Since winning the BBC Apprentice in 2016, Ridiculously Rich by Alana has gone from strength to strength with 2019 set to be the year they sell their one millionth slice of luxury handmade cake. After the success of their tray bake sales in a number of independent retail and convenience stores, at the end of February they launched their brand new retail display units, a custom built, fully branded self-serve unit that is purpose built for their products. Since launching the first two units in two premium stores, they have already seen incredible results, with one of the retailers experiencing over 100% increase in sales within 2 weeks of the unit being installed.
Lord Sugar added that “We’ve seen a gap in the market with people moving away from plastic and an increase in the self-serve trend. Our brand new units are designed for this and sit perfectly in any premium retail stores. We are very excited to have launched the first 2 units into stores, with more launching later this year, we’re excited to see the success for these stores and for Ridiculously Rich.” Further units are set to launch within the next few months and a limited number are available for other interested stores, subject to lease or purchase agreements.
These units are suited for many retail environments, especially located near an express coffee machine. With there being over 8,000 self-serve coffee machines in the UK, from one well-known brand alone, placing a self-serve cake unit alongside is encouraging customers to trade up on their purchase.
With data showing that the food to go market is on the rise, currently set at £25billion, customers are changing their shopping habits. People want convenience while also searching for artisanal indulgence. Ridiculously Rich by Alana pride themselves on luxury treats, with great importance placed on quality of ingredients and manufacture. All products are produced by hand, using free range eggs, Belgian chocolate and Welsh butter.
The luxury handmade cake company have now also partnered with the UK wide convenience store outlet Nisa, making their product range, including the premium Grab & Go Bars, available to be stocked in over 2,500 independently owned stores nationwide.
The nature and quality of these products are becoming increasingly popular with retailers nationwide, with a number of discussions ongoing and future stockists to be announced later in 2019. Alana will be speaking about her business challenges, visions and bringing along her cakes to the conference.
